Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) specialist Mansell Building Solutions has filed a notice of intention to appoint an administrator, just six months after launching a 45,000 sq ft headquarters and factory at Broadway Business Park in Chadderton, Oldham.
Established in 1992, the Greater Manchester-based firm employs over 50 staff and recently reported an annual turnover of approximately £13m. The light gauge steel frame specialist operates across residential, care, student, and education projects in the North of England, maintaining supply chain partnerships with major contractors including Laing O’Rourke, Wates, Morgan Sindall, ISG, and Galliford Try.
The filing provides temporary protection from creditor action as the directors evaluate future options. The announcement follows recent project wins, including a 27-apartment development for Lovell Partnerships in Croxteth, Liverpool, and a 124-apartment extra care scheme for Robertson in South Shields.
Company Statement Highlights
-
Reason for Filing: Severe cash-flow and working-capital pressures driven by prolonged industry challenges and project delays.
-
Immediate Priority: Supporting affected staff, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors with clear communication.
-
Industry Impact: The board highlighted the difficulty of driving offsite manufacturing adoption, noting that the pace of industry change failed to match their ambitions.
Led by Managing Director Angela Mansell – a prominent advocate for offsite construction reform – the company expressed pride in its efforts to challenge traditional building methods and confirmed it will provide updates as professional advisers assess next steps.
