Portakabin will unveil a new transitional living solution for young people facing urgent housing need at UKREiiF next month.
Working in partnership with youth homelessness charity Centrepoint, Portakabin is set to launch Jordan’s Home , a new Single Living Accommodation (SLA) product designed to deliver “safe, stable and dignified” homes that can be rapidly deployed for young people experiencing homelessness.
According to Centrepoint’s Youth Homelessness Databank, almost 124,000 young people experienced homelessness across the UK last year, the highest figure recorded to date.
Portakabin’s transitional housing concept aims to help tackle the issue by providing a genuine “Stepping Stone” home, giving young people the opportunity to build independence, access education and employment, and move towards long-term housing.
Sally Orlopp, deputy CEO at Centrepoint, said, “Our ambition is to create at least 300 homes for young people ready for independence but otherwise locked out of stable housing because there simply aren’t enough good quality, genuinely affordable homes. We know that we can’t do this alone, and that’s why we’re delighted to be partnering with Portakabin to create these homes. Too many young people are denied housing at the moment, our hope is this initiative and others will give some of them a chance to save money progress in their careers and prepare for living independently.”
Portakabin will showcase Jordan’s Home at UKREiiF in Leeds, where conversations will focus on youth homelessness and the wider role Modern Methods of Construction can play in addressing the UK’s housing challenges.
Alongside the Stepping Stone concept, the company will also present its broader transitional housing model, described as a “high-quality, scalable and cost-effective” response to the UK’s temporary accommodation crisis.
The rental-based model has been designed for rapid delivery and flexibility, allowing schemes to adapt to changing local community needs while helping reduce financial pressure on local authorities as permanent social and affordable housing stock is developed. The accommodation offer ranges from studio apartments and one-bedroom homes through to larger units suitable for multi-generational families.

Our model provides a transitional home, until permanent housing is available.”
The Portakabin and Centrepoint teams will attend UKREiiF from May 19–21 at the Royal Armouries Dock in Leeds.
