“Strong year for modular construction specialist

A Shropshire-based modular construction specialist which works with the healthcare and education sectors and is backed by European investment company Kartesia has reported a "strong" performance for its latest financial year, depsite results taking a hit.

Founded in 2006, Darwin Group is a family-run business specialising in off-site construction projects for the health, education and wider public sector.

The company has posted a turnover of £58.6m for the year to 31 December 2021, dipping from £63m in 2020.

Pre-tax profits went from £9.8m to £8.2m over the same period.

A statement signed off by the board said: "Business performance was strong and predictable during FY21, as the company maintained its position in the healthcare and education sectors. We continued our strong record of project delivery, which has maintained our enhanced reputation in those sectors.

"Operating profit was reduced slightly due to revenue phasing and increased overheads to support future growth objectives.

It added: "The business has continued to operate throughout the Covid-19 restrictions and is supporting all of the sectors to ensure that projects are delivered on time and to budget.

"The directors have continually evaluated the impact of both Brexit and Covid-19 throughout the year and believe that there will be minimal impact to the short-term and long-term prospects of the business."

Darwin Group secured the backs of Kartesia earlier this year.
