Project Overview



Riverside Campus is the largest offsite free schools in the UK, providing 24,000m2 of teaching accommodation on a six-hectare site in Barking, East London.

Portakabin - the principal contractor for the entire project - successfully delivered a full turnkey solution comprising of extensive ground and external works. 387 steel-framed modules were manufactured, delivered, installed and fit out to a challenging 92 week programme.

The £44.5m three-school campus provides a 10-form entry, five-storey secondary school, a three-form entry, four-storey primary school, 90-place nursery and a special education needs (SEN) school; accommodating 2,645 children aged up to 19.
The project was delivered 50% faster than traditional construction and incorporated: larger classrooms than normal, spaces to encourage and facilitate a variety of activities to including interactive teaching, small group learning and independent study, all specifically designed to meet the school's requirements, within budget.

In addition, large, multi-use spaces for catering, assembly and breakout can be found throughout the campus as well as high quality ICT, media arts and technology facilities and multi-purpose dance, drama and art studios.
